ingredients with a price tag

Do you know people who purchase clothing items but never wear them? The clothes hang in their closets with price tags still dangling on them. This behavior baffles me, until I thought about my own purchasing habits related to food items.

Perusing my pantry, I find I am guilty of the same thing. Some of the items I've purchased but never used or used only once include white truffle oil, anchovy paste, oyster sauce, and sweet Hungarian paprika.

Tonight I will try the truffle oil with farfelle, garlic and rosemary. I'll keep you posted!

gps and biscotti

One of my favorite places to stop when I'm out of town is a coffee shop, and using the GPS system to find one is a treat. Not only am I usually in need of a caffeine fix, but, like a gift, I enjoy the surprise of seeing what's inside the shop.

While some coffee shops are artsy and contemporary, with young clerks in straight leg jeans and Converse tennis shoes, others feature antiques, and I speculate that the coffee is percolating on the stovetop with an egg in the grounds.

Today I discovered Scooters Coffeehouse while in Sioux Falls. I enjoyed their lemon butter biscotti along with my coffee. My own most recent experiment with making this treat was pistachio and dried cranberry biscotti.

Biscotti has a fun shape, is available in crazy flavors, and even the word itself is fun to say!
